Lots of people like to take trips and become tourists. Walking around new areas, seeing new sites and people. It is a lot of fun. But have you ever done it in your own neighborhood? Just take a day and see your town from a tourist point of view. What would you do? Where would you go? Would you try that new diner that you've been meaning to try? Go down to the new park? Meet some new people at a new coffee shop? What would it be?
Me, I'm from a small rural/agriculture town so unless it is cows and corn/wheat fields there isn't much to see around me.
But, I do live near a very important place that is part of our history.
Hubby and I decided to do a little tour of Historic Sackets Harbor yesterday. If anyone knows history, then they understand that Sackets Harbor played a significant role in the War of 1812. The town was founded in 1801 by Augustus Sackett.
We swung down by the Battlefield.
And were lucky enough to see that they had a re-enactment going on at the time.
We walked around the path of the Battlefield.
And saw some history on the way out.
Not to forget, the beautiful views of Lake Ontario.
Also, if you head a few miles out of Sackets Harbor you will come across a place to visit, especially if you have younger children who love farms and animals. This establishment is owned by the Robbins family who have been in farming for many many years. You can tour a dairy, feed some animals, go on a hay ride and more. If you are ever in the area, check them out.
So, this was my day yesterday, acting like a tourist!
Now it is your turn.
