Summer Blogging Challenge ~ Hometown Tourist

Lots of people like to take trips and become tourists.  Walking around new areas, seeing new sites and people. It is a lot of fun.  But have you ever done it in your own neighborhood?  Just take a day and see your town from a tourist point of view.  What would you do? Where would you go? Would you try that new diner that you've been meaning to try? Go down to the new park? Meet some new people at a new coffee shop? What would it be?

Me, I'm from a small rural/agriculture town so unless it is cows and corn/wheat fields there isn't much to see around me.

But, I do live near a very important place that is part of our history.

Hubby and I decided to do a little tour of Historic Sackets Harbor yesterday.   If anyone knows history, then they understand that Sackets Harbor played a significant role in the War of 1812. The town was founded in 1801 by Augustus Sackett.

We swung down by the Battlefield.

And were lucky enough to see that they had a re-enactment going on at the time.

We walked around the path of the Battlefield.

And saw some history on the way out.

Not to forget, the beautiful views of Lake Ontario.

Also, if you head a few miles out of Sackets Harbor you will come across a place to visit, especially if you have younger children who love farms and animals.  This establishment is owned by the Robbins family who have been in farming for many many years.  You can tour a dairy, feed some animals, go on a hay ride and more.  If you are ever in the area, check them out.

So, this was my day yesterday, acting like a tourist!

Now it is your turn.

DELIVERY MAN ~ Trailer Preview ~ SNEAK PREVIEW!

By now you have seen some short previews on TV about the new movie DELIVERY MAN that is coming out in November of this year.

In the film, Vince Vaughn plays an affable underachiever looking for his purpose in life, when he finds out he’s fathered 533 children through anonymous donations to a fertility clinic 20 years ago. Now he must decide whether or not to come forward when 142 of them want to meet their biological father.

DELIVERY MAN opens in theatres everywhere on November 22nd.

Those little sneak previews just give you a peek into the new movie.  What I (and 532 other bloggers) have for you is the early release of the trailer.  Yes.  You can check out this trailer months before the movie is going to be released.

This looks like it is going to be such a fun movie and a wacky yet heartwarming way to look at family.

Can you imagine finding out that you have 533 biological children? What would you think? What would you do if half of them, or so, wanted to meet you?

Anyhow, we all hope that you enjoy the trailers and it makes you look forward to the movie coming out in November.

Here are also some unreleased photos from the movie!!!

And, now what you are waiting for.  The Official Trailer, seen no where else on the internet, except for the participating blogs.

Enjoy!

I would like to thank: Marshall Weinbaum from Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, for allowing Lollipops n' Ladybugs to participate in this promotion!

Random Tuesday Evening Thoughts

* I really can't believe that blogger hasn't figured out the GFC problem yet?  I'd like to "see" my followers.  It looks like I have zero.

* My poor kitty is now being tormented by the hummingbirds.  Even if he is laying on the couch on the other side of the room from the feeder, they will go around to the window that is behind him and buzz around.

* The laundromat, not as fun as people make it out to be, lol.  Okay, I've been before, but never with a toddler.

* Will Jr. win a race this year? So close the past two races.

* Why do the price of Oreos keep going up, but the package size keep shrinking? Okay, you can pretty much say that about anything in the stores nowadays.

* Sitting outside and just relaxing at night (with hubby), after the little one has gone to bed is really nice.

Afternoon Visitors

We have a pair of these that have been stopping by frequently and though we don't have any hummingbird food, we mixed some plain white sugar and water into their feeder and they have been going nuts.

They are here frequently, pretty sure that there is a nest really close by.  Most of the time they hang out by sitting on the clothes line just looking around.

Updated

I need to send my many thanks to MommyPR for a very needed update to my blog.  She did a wonderful job and took care of all that orange.  Don't get me wrong, I do like the color orange, but after awhile it started to bother the old eyes.

Its funny out of all the blogger templates, that is the only one, that after a few days, didn't start to fade out on me.  That is why I had to change the templates so much.

But, what do you all think??

Thanks again Angela.

Are people in that big of a hurry?!?

I had to run an errand yesterday so the little one and I were out and about.

On the way home there was a vehicle in front of me (main roadway) that was doing about 55 mph, and traffic was moving along fine. Behind me was a Jeep (like a Cherokee) and then a white van behind him.

Well, the car in front of me kept speeding up and slowing down. You could tell that he or she was looking for something.

First time was at a store, he/she slowed down, then sped up. Then about a mile down the road they did it again at an old restaurant. I had backed off from them because I really had no idea when they were going to hit their brakes next. Then off we went again.

The guy in the jeep behind me is shaking his head and mouthing something, and pointing. At this time I thought it was directed to the person in front of me.

Finally, we come to another place of business, a doctor's office and the person in front of me slows down and turns their directional light on to turn to the left. I inched over to the right so as soon as they started turning I could go by on the shoulder.

Apparently Mr. Impatience behind me did not realize that there was a car in front of me, and was directing his anger towards me. At this time he decided to pull out into the passing lane not realizing the car was there and turning left.

It was like slow motion for a few seconds. I couldn't believe that he was just about next to me. I moved over as far to the right as I could get and he yanked his vehicle back in behind me. Not sure how he didn't hit me.

The kicker, the van behind him had pulled out to pass with him. Neither of them saw the car in front of me. I don't drive a tank, it wasn't hard to see this vehicle ahead of me.

Thankfully, Mr, Impatience didn't cause an accident.

Different Layouts/Templates

I want to apologize about the different templates/designs I have been using. It seems like after a couple of days of one design, it starts to fade out and is unreadable; at least to me.

Hopefully, fingers crossed, I will be able to pay someone to do a more professional design for me really soon.

Until then, have a wonderful day my friends.

Going to the races and a little lack of respect

With the grace of a ballerina I dialed the phone and managed to win tickets to a local race track for Saturday night.

I have never been to a track to watch the races. I've watched Nascar on tv. I root for Dale Jr., and loved Dale Sr., but have never attended a race in person.

But, these weren't Nascar cars. These were Sprint cars, Modifieds, Lite-Modifieds, etc. Nevertheless, they go fast and they are LOUD, especially the Sprint cars. If you have never been to a race before, turning up your car stereo full blast doesn't come close. Maybe standing under the fireworks display at the Washington Monument would be similar.

We were approximately 15 feet away from the track. Separated by a short wall and a chain link fence that was about 10-12 feet high.

We sat on a straight-away between turn 4 and turn 1.

Me: Think a car can jump that fence?

Hubby: We're safe.

Me: Okay. (Though I'm not reassured as these cars are flying around turn 4 balanced on 3 tires).

Hubby: But there was a woman killed down there (points to the direction of turn 4) when a tire flew off a car and over the fence.

So, I am now thinking about an escape route and how fast you would have to duck and cover if you saw something happening. Two accidents happened in turn 4 and I didn't see them, so I know that you could not plan for an escape route. One I did see, and it wasn't pretty.

Also, and I just want to throw this in. The barricade and the fence are next to each other. There were many small children there and they were standing with their faces right up to the fence. What were the parents thinking? There were also a couple of newborns there as well. Not the place for newborns to be.

Any who, someone from the track finally noticed the kids and shooed them away from the fence.

So, where does the respect or lack of come in?

After the heat races for qualifying and a dash for cash race they run the main event race. The announcer asks everyone to stand and to "please remove your hats" for the National Anthems of Canada and the USA. We stand, remove hats, listen to the Canadian National Anthem and then there is a short pause before our National Anthem plays. From behind us we hear: "Remove your hat asshole." Apparently some gent decided that, yes, he would stand, but no he wasn't going to remove his hat, and another gent was calling him out on it.

There was no fight, and I didn't really want to glance over my shoulder to see if he removed his hat or not.

This is just one incident that makes me wonder what this world is coming to? Growing up I was always taught to respect the flag and the country? Is it so hard to reach up and remove a hat for 2 minutes?

They also did a moment of silence and there were people laughing and talking during that.

I really believe that respect for our country and the people that inhabit it has gone out the window.

But I know where I stand and know that my daughter will be brought up respecting the flag and our country.

Let me leave you with one word:

EARPLUGS!!

New Followers

I just want to take this time to thank my blog followers. Even if I don't respond right away, I do read each and every comment and email.

Without you all, I would be talking to myself. Which isn't a bad thing. Unless, of course, I start arguing with myself, then what happens if I don't win??

Also, I have picked up a few new followers recently and if I'm not already following your blog, please drop me a line so I can.

I hope that everyone is having a wonderful day.

Weather

Here in the north country the weather is really starting to heat up. For May we have had record setting temperatures.

Its been hazy, hot & humid.

Which is also weird considering we had snow on Mother's Day.

Typical north country weather.

Anyways, I'm sure in the rest of the country the weather is starting to heat up as well.

Do yourselves a favor when you go out in it. Wear tons of sunscreen. Make sure everyone in the family has sunscreen on. Hats are also a plus. Yes, even if you have hair on your head, you head can still get sunburned. Plus, if there is a big enough brim, it'll keep your face shaded.

Also, drink plenty of water. Nothing more refreshing than a glass of ice-water on a hot day.

When you are done with your day, or even if you do this before you begin:

Please, check on your neighbors. Especially if you have elderly neighbors or know that your neighbors haven't been feeling well. Make sure if they have an a/c unit that it is in and working properly (only takes a few minutes to put one in for someone). If they have fans, make sure they are out for them and on and running.

Just stopping in and saying hi is always a good thing.

Enjoy your day.
