Bullying!

Something that we hear about daily from the social media's.  Kids bullying kids, kids bullying adults, adults bullying kids and so on and so on and so on.

I am a firm believer that you have to nip this in the bud at an early age.  Explain to your kids that bullying anyone is NOT ACCEPTABLE and won't be tolerated.  Make them see what it is like through some one else's eyes. 

I believe that is what Suzy Liebermann is doing with her book HUGO THE HAPPY STARFISH ~ THE LAST BULLY

"Respect! Don't Bully!"

Is a message that is repeated through out this book.

My review of the story:

My little one and I just finished up reading this together.  It is a pretty easy read, with a strong message that even your youngsters will pick up.  

The story is about Hugo The Happy Starfish who decides to stand up for a clown fish that is being bullied by a bigger fish and together they form the A.B.C. This story is like a chain reaction, because the individual that is doing the bullying, becomes the one being bullied by things that are bigger and badder in the ocean, and soon everyone wants to be part of the A.B.C.

After reading the story, I took the opportunity to talk to my little one about bullying and what happens to both the bully and the person (whether child or adult) that is being bullied.  How this behavior is unacceptable and that I hope that if she gets bullied or sees another child being bullied that she steps up and does the right thing by notifying an adult of the situation. 

"Respect! Don't Bully!"

I think this is a message that we all can learn.  Respect! Respect! Respect! If you are thinking about bullying/picking on someone, put yourselves in their shoes to see how it would make you feel.  After all, we won't win this battle until the last bully is educated about the consequences of bullying.

Plus, and this is a pretty cool feature.  Every now and again, you will see phrases in another language!   A great added feature.
