Saying I Love You Without actually saying it or having it cost MONEY

I've been trying to come up with some blog post topics to write about as it seems that my blog has taken to just being giveaways, and that is not the reason that I started it.  Oh, don't get me wrong, I love giving things away.  Heck, I love entering sweepstakes and get just as excited being able to give prizes away to our readers.

But I also want to expand a bit on my blog.  Get it up to date.  Might even change the name a bit as my little red-head is growing up, don't get me wrong, she still loves lollipops and she still loves ladybugs, but her interests have exploded.

So, sitting here thinking, how do I say "I Love You" without actually saying the words? How can you say "I Love You" without it costing anything?   My kiddo tells me all the time.  She actually just yelled out of the bedroom, "Mommy I Love You,"  and she does that frequently.

Here are some of my (our) ways:

1.  Each and every morning I get up and pack my husband's lunch for him to take to work.  Growing up, I watched my Mom pack my Dad's lunchbox each and every day, and I guess it grew on me.

2.  Will text my hubby, just because.

3.  When he gets home from work, I will ask him how his day has gone? Pretty easy to tell when its been a bad day, and actually listen to him.

4.  I put little cute notes in his lunch box, though its been a while, need to get on that again.

5.  Texting funny pictures of the kiddo to him.

6.  Kiddo and I will go out and visit him in the field when I know he is going to be working late and won't get to see her before she goes to bed.

7.  Get up first thing and make the coffee (he does this for me as well).

8.  Just spend time together, doing nothing.

9.  Cook his favorite meal.

10. After the kiddo is in bed, pour a glass or two of wine and snuggle.

11.  We love to sit out side, quietly, and just look up at the stars.  This is "our time."

What are some of your ways to say I Love You to your spouse, significant other, friends, parents, etc?

Homeschool Ups & Downs

Have you ever just had one of those days where you think that you can't get through another minute of homeschooling?

Today, has been one of those days. The main issue was we got up way to early (so someone didn't get enough sleep) and went to a doctor's appointment with my husband. Up and out of the house before 7 a.m. So, we have had a lot of grumpiness going on, both her and I.

I know I have had enough when I start looking at the school webpage, and thinking about what I would do with those 8+ hours she would be sitting in a brick and mortar building.  Then I come back down to reality and realize that I do love homeschooling. I love the opportunities it brings us. How we aren't tied in one place and how her learning comes from many different aspects of our lives. How every trip out of the house is a learning experience, for both her and I.

She loves it.

I love it.

Have a I mentioned that we are both stubborn? Yeah, she gets that from me. Makes for some testy days.

Today, we took a break and worked on her bedroom, had some lunch, and now she is happily working on her phonics book.

Wouldn't trade it for the world.

Homeschooling Thoughts . . .

As a few of you know, we decided (or maybe it was I that decided) to homeschool the little one. Not because I think the schools in the area are the worst, I just know in my head and in my heart that I can do so much better for her. Why should she sit in a classroom for 7+ hours a day with 1 teacher (overworked) and 30 (probably more by the time she would be there) kids and try to learn? Why would we stifle her learning like that? The world will be her teacher. There is so much out there for her to learn. To experience.  To have fun with.

The one main issue on what I have had so far (or wall that I have hit) is which way to go with the homeschooling?  Just when I think that I have my mind made up on some sort of curriculum, another one catches my eye and I like what I read.  I know I do want it to focus around literature, as she already has a love for books it seems and I want to expand on that.  What I do see myself doing is borrowing from many different styles of teaching and finding what works best for us.

Anyone else do that? What works best for you and your family? I am always looking for new ideas.  How about supplies? What have you stocked up on or are looking to find?

Would love to hear some of your ideas.

Have a wonderful day, my friends.

The "I Can't Do It" From The Dad With Homeschooling

Ever since I mentioned the idea of homeschooling the little one to my husband he has had a deer in the headlight look on his face.

He still isn't backing me up on the idea 100%, and it isn't because he thinks that I will ruin her for life.  Trust me, that idea has crossed my mind a million times since we have talked about it.  Also, having numerous people tell you that you will ruin her for life, she'll be a loner with no friends, put those ideas in your head and can squash you confidence.

But, he is afraid that I am going to ask him to help out.  He has told me in the past that it is all on me that he isn't capable of teaching her anything that would be worthwhile or things she would want to learn.  I don't think that he realizes that he has been teaching her from day 1.  She loves being with him and listening to him read or going over her letters with her.  Even teaching her a song or two.

I told him that all he would have to do is have her around when he is doing things that he likes to do.  No formal teaching needed.  She will learn from his actions and they can spend time together.  My little one is 3 and she can pick out a John Deere tractor from a mixture of tractors, she knows what a haybine is.  She is learning about cows, the other night she kept getting her face and arm licked by a calf that was only a couple of weeks old and she loved it, and he was responsible for that.

Oh, the things he will teach her.  The things she will teach them.  The things that they will learn together

I have faith in you honey, your daughter will learn by your actions and you two will learn new things together.  Just like she and I will, as well.
